Floate for learning a language
Build your phrasebook while you watch.
The best way to learn a language is to hear it, and the best way to remember it is to write it down. Floate lets you do both at once: your vocabulary list floats on top of the lesson, the show or the YouTube video, so new words go straight into your notes.

Catch words as you hear them
Hear a new word? Press ⌘⇧N and write it down without pausing. Keep one note per lesson, or one long list you add to every day.
Learn from real shows
Watching a series in Spanish, French or Japanese? Your note stays on top of the full-screen player, so you can collect phrases from real conversations.
Organise as you learn
Use headings for each topic, bullets for words and their meanings, and a quote for a sentence you want to memorise. Turn things you need to practise into a checklist.
Keep everything in a folder per language or per week, and search it with ⌘K.
How to do it
- Play your lesson, show or podcast video.
- Press ⌘⇧N to open your vocabulary note.
- Write each new word with its meaning as you hear it.
- Review the list later in the Floate library.
Questions
Can I type accents and other alphabets?
Yes. Floate uses your Mac's keyboard settings, so accents and input sources like Japanese, Chinese or Arabic work as they do everywhere else.
Does it work with Netflix or YouTube in full screen?
Yes. Floate notes float above full-screen video in any browser or app.
